Poetic Letters #008
Do you know what's better than poetry? Living a life that makes you want to write it!
Hi,
this letter has been harder to write mostly because I decided to share my thoughts on a poem I wrote that talks about what I believe to be some challenges our society faces.
I wrote that poem, Inside, around two years ago and reading it now I had to understand what was still important in there for me.
I rewrote what I think about it three times before getting to something meaningful for me right now, and now I feel I got the point I was caring to share.
Hope you enjoy it.

~ Simple ~
There’s not only one way For you to feel good And get rid of that pain “It can’t be that simple” I heard you say But what if I told you That simple isn’t quite You have to do one thing But do it right Stop looking at others For what’s wrong and what’s right Just forgive yourself Love your darkness and light
~ All My Flaws ~
Here I am With all my flaws Some are real Some are just roles I told you I was changing For I was imperfect But that was a lie That made you suspect You told me I was perfect But I didn’t hear We all have our defects We all need to heal But if healing is accepting Our own nature Then accepting is loving Each other’s flavours So here I am With all my flaws I showed you mine Will you show me yours?
~ Inside ~
We fell asleep In everyday life Trying to play chess With a pair of dice Content not with our joys But with our fears Believing we had control We ended up in tears Now locked In this strange place We call home All the games All the noise We just feel alone Looking for reasons For this to not be our fault How long will we survive In this new default But what we don’t see Is the why We keep fighting for certainty But change Is the only certainty in life We’re living an emergency But the crisis is in our mind We can change everything All we need is inside

About the poem Inside
I wrote this poem during the first year of covid lockdowns across the world. I was lucky enough to be in Bali and not be affected by these regulations too much.
Nonetheless, I was surely influenced by what was going on in the world.
So what is this poem about? Reading it again today, I have to reflect on it with fresh eyes.
One thing is about control. How individually and as a (western) society we use so many resources and energy to keep things under control.
Of course, chaos can bring disruptions and maybe even danger, so we want to avoid that. And yet, no matter what we do, there can always be something that will change our plans.
All the effort to work towards what we expected to get and then, nothing.
This wouldn’t even be a problem if we enjoyed the journey of putting in the effort, no matter the results.
The question is: have you enjoyed yours? Do you enjoy it now?
