Poetic Letters #020
When you don't know what to do, make art
hope you’re well!
Sometimes life throws us challenges and new situations that we might have a hard time dealing with it.
Well, the good news is that we can always do two things: breathe and make art!
There are also other tools for uncomfortable times, like journaling, movement, sound… therapy. But these two are my favourites.
Breathing consciously can allow you to deal with your sensations and the environment around you, it requires effort and your mind's focus to lead your breath. It can be very simple or very complex, but you can learn just as much as you need.
Art-making instead doesn’t require much. Maybe pen and paper, maybe a canvas and paint, maybe just your voice or whatever you feel more at ease using to express yourself. The secret is dropping any expectations or goals. Art can’t be wrong, you just need to use it however you prefer it and in a way you believe will help you.
Let me know how you use these tools!
I go first!
Here’s some art I did for myself, for you to enjoy.
~ Dance ~
I want to taste your brain Lick your heart Hold your guts Draw your face And watch you dancing
~ Heart ~
You want it but you don’t know why You grab it but it slips away You share it but it’s a lie You use it but you don’t know how You beg but you can’t cry You can’t have it ‘cos she’s a fire I‘d tell you the way But she can only be mine
~ Tea ~
I want to keep playing The same song every night Pretending I’m dying And waking up next to you Brushing my teeth At the first light I’ll make us some tea While looking at you And while the night comes And we think of what to do We’ll be talking for hours About me, about you And now that it’s dark I’ll play with the rain The song of our life Until I die again
